NWF Arctic Hotline

Grassroots Campaigns for National Wildlife Federation

The Solution

In 2005, TCG and NWF launched the “Arctic Action Hotline.”

The Hotline was one method that provided interested voters an avenue for demonstrating their support. Two options were designed to facilitate voter communications directly into Legislators offices.

NWF and the other like organizations would be able to direct their members to the toll-free Hotline through email campaigns, organizational newsletters, direct mail or any other communication medium, and when required, create a ground swell of legislative contacts in an effort to persuade legislators to continue to band Arctic drilling.

As an example, NWF launched a radio and newspaper ad campaign in the State of Florida to influence the vote of newly elected Senator Martinez. When the supporters call the toll free Hotline they are given information about the issue and are then given the options of Direct Connecting to speak to their Senator, sending a fax with a personalized message to their Senator, or a combination of both options.

Another example of the Hotline’s benefit was the partnering of the NWF and The Alaska Coalition, where they co-sponsored “phone in day” at several college campuses to encourage students to call the toll free number and direct connect to their Senators.

TCG’s service also provided NWF with the flexibility to adjust scripting content at will, when and if the situation on the Hill changes or the option of changing Senate targets as a result of Senators changing their mind and becoming pro-active supporters.
