About Patients Action Network

The Patients Action Network (PAN), sponsored by the American Medical Association (AMA), created the Medical Liability Reform Campaign. The program was developed and executed in stages. Stage 1 was considered a test phase targeting 8 of 19 states currently in a medical liability crisis (i.e. Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Florida, Maine and Nebraska).  The goal was to put a cap on skyrocketing insurance premiums.  As a result of high premiums, Doctors are forced to make tough decisions, such as refusing to perform certain medical procedures, moving their practice to a state with existing medical Liability reform, or even giving up their practice altogether.  Subsequent campaign Phases were to be assessed as needed.
